As a Graphic Design student in the graduating class of 2024, I was tasked with designing the 2024 Annual Spring Show. This show represents the culmination of work from the Design Department, including majors such as Graphic Design, Interior Architecture, Design Studies, and Photography. The project deliverables included an 11x17” poster, social media posts, a website, and a wayfinding system. The primary goal of the Spring Show is to showcase the work of our senior class while also serving as an opportunity to attract prospective students interested in the Design Department's offerings.

The overarching narrative for the Spring Show was inspired by the journey of all designers within our department. Over the past 2-4 years at Sac State, we’ve poured our blood, sweat, and tears into developing our skills, often working late into the night to bring our design ideas to life. We are a new wave of designers who generate fresh, innovative concepts with the precision and consistency of a factory.
To symbolize this, I employed a coded visual metaphor in my design. The central element is a symbol that represents both a piece of popcorn and a thinking cloud, embodying the duality of our work: systematic, like a factory, yet playful and creative. The popcorn metaphor also adds an element of fun to the "show" theme, evoking the excitement of a performance. The design system is thus built around factory pumps, popcorn imagery, and a bold new wave typeface, all working together to represent the energy and creativity of our graduating class.
