The “Very Cutsey, Very Mindful, Very Demure” Gentle Deck

Case study read: ~3 mins

I designed a deck of 52 playing cards, replacing the traditional suits of clover, diamond, spade, and heart with four new suits. To maintain coherence within the established theme, I also redesigned the face cards to align with the overall aesthetic.

Floriography and Self-Love

Inspired by my personal journey of self-love and healing, I created this deck of playing cards as a tribute to all gentle women. Through the use of floriography—the language of flowers—I aimed to craft a deck that serves as a gentle reminder of beauty, elegance, and the love we all deserve. Just as in life, where we have the power to shape our paths and create our own masterpieces, this deck symbolizes the empowerment and grace inherent in every woman.

After thorough research into the meanings of various flowers, I chose four that resonate deeply with the themes of self-love and positivity:

  • Pink Roses: Representing grace, happiness, and gentleness.
  • Yellow Tulips: Symbolizing hope and happiness.
  • Iris: A flower of hope, courage, wisdom, and admiration.
  • Bluebells: Denoting humility, gratitude, and everlasting love.

Each suit in the deck reflects these qualities, offering players a mindful and affirming experience with every card they draw.
